What is it with toddlers and poopy diapers? Lately I’ve been having the same conversation I’ve had time and again with different children over the years.
Me: Zazzy, I think you have a poop. Do you have a poopy diaper?
The Zaz: No.
Me: Are you sure?
The Zaz: No!
Me: Are you sure you’re sure?
The Zaz (getting very fussy): NO!
Me: Well, I’m pretty sure. Let’s go change your diaper.
The Zaz (dancing about and trying to run away): NO!! No wannit changa diapo!
And of course by this time, I’ve scooped him up and carried him, screaming, down the hall to change the offending diaper, with him crying bloody murder the whole time. Which just makes me wonder: Do you like that poopy diaper, kid?? Is it benefitting you?
Which leads me to my point in bringing this up in polite society. It’s a good analogy of me and my sin.
The Lord: I think you have some sin in your life. Is that sin?
Me: No.
The Lord: Are you sure?
Me: No!
The Lord: Okay, let’s just go get that sin out of your life now.
Me: NO!! I want to squish around in it a little longer!
Gross.

Wow, that is seriously profound. It brings our foolishness to life, doesn't it? And God's Goodness in cleaning us up despite our protests? Or does he let us keep the diaper on longer, since we're theoretically adults and can choose whether to have it changed or not? Hmmm. 1 John 1:9 - cleansing!
tee hee
Have you heard your Uncle Don's garbage can sermon?
Same theme.
We don't need to obsess about our neighbors' garbage.
We don't need to TALK about our neighbor's garbage.
We don't need to spend our lives burdened with the garbage that was put upon us in our childhoods.
We don't need to hoard our garbage, nor cling to it.
We don't need to produce ridiculous amounts of garbage.
We don't need to expect that we can be garbage free.
All we need to do with garbage is wheel it out the curb on a regular basis.
That's it.
Though, if the curb doesn't do it for you, you can wheel it to the foot of the cross.
He would demo this sermon with a real garbage can.
ah, stinking hilarious.
Get it?
I am so gonna be reminded of this analogy tomorrow when I ask Gideon the same question and get the good dose of humility I need.
